Arrrffffff..No, not the Anesthesia!!!!

Ugh…when it comes to the words…general anesthesia…my heart skips a beat. Years ago, I actually had a bad reaction while I was under general anesthesia. If anyone I love has to have it, I automatically get a feeling of dread. An anesthesiologist once told me it is controlled poisons. So when our vet said Trev needed to have his teeth cleaned, we were quite scared, especially with him being a senior dog!!!! However, Trev is quite the celebrity at our vet and everyone knows him. We love and trust our vet, so all our questions and concerns were answered. Trev does have all of his check ups and just recently had a blood work up and she was very pleased and confident in his overall health for his age. In fact, she said that he is healthier than most of the animals she sees and treats in his age group. So, we decided it was the best decision to go ahead and have it done.

So, Wednesday was a very LONG day for our family. We missed hearing his jingle collar and having him there beside us.

Every call we got from the vet office that day was wonderful news…Trev did great…he is just groggy and they wanted to monitor him for the afternoon. Come to find out, his back tooth, one we couldn’t even see, was actually a cavity!!!! What a blessing to know we made the right decision. Our vet even said the extraction may help his allergies!!!!

Even the baby was missing his big bubby!!!!

This was Trev when we first brought him home…

20130321-191406.jpg

He looked pretty beat up 😦 The first thing he did was get a BIG drink which was a wonderful sign…

Our next order of business, was to give our bear a bath…Time to bring out the inner squirrel…

Then we gave him the royal treatment…We blow dryed him with the hairdryer…

20130321-193102.jpg

Both of his front paws were shaved…Guess I’ll have to make him some paw warmers 🙂

20130321-193213.jpg

One fluffy, tired and sore bear…

Resting and recovering in the warm sunlight…

20130321-193446.jpg

We do not wish to make Trev undergo this painful process again…What are some of the products you use to keep the plaque under control, besides regular brushing? Our first purchase will be Plaque Off and we will also start flossing with Doggie Dental Aid. We will write some reviews in the near future!!!!

Well wishes for a quick recovery is Trev’s request this week. It’s gonna be a long weekend…but we are all together!!!! That’s always something to celebrate. Happy Barks and Brushings!!!!

Top O’ The Mornin’

Oz the Terrier

It’s true lassies and lads, Trev has inspired a Limerick by Oz The Terrier.

There once was a Cairn in Tennessee
who went nuts for chicken fricassee.
When he catches the smell
in his eyes the tears swell
and he trembles with pure ecstasy.

An original poem by Oz the Terrier; re-posted with permission, in its entirety, as originally posted on http://www.oztheterrier.com

Whenever I make chicken, Trev comes to sit in front of the stove. He begins staring with his laser beam eyes and his eyes literally swell up with tears from the excitement!!!! And the award for Best Doggie Drama goes to Trev Bear!!!!

From one fellow Cairn to another…Thank you Oz!!!!

Helping Your Senior Dog Rock

20130315-194414.jpg

That’s how Trev Bear and I feel about aging!!!! However, that’s part of the journey and we are getting grey together…

20130315-194548.jpg

20130315-194555.jpg

Each day we seem to get a little greyer, but we color it with LOVE, vet advice and wonderful supplements.

20130315-194746.jpg

20130315-194755.jpg

We have used DinOVite Supplements off and on for several years. Last year, we noticed Trev’s hair beginning to thin and his energy decrease substantially. We put him back on the DinOVite and it began to put the pup back in his step again. He started going for his soccer ball just like old times and what a relief to treasure those times again.

20130315-201013.jpg

We also use Phycox Soft Chews for Trev’s joints. We could tell a difference in the way he walked within only one week. We desire to stay away from anti inflammatory meds for as long as possible as his stomach is so sensitive. They would just tear his tummy and bowls up. So the Phycox and the memory foam bed we purchased from Pooch Planet has made a significant difference in his joints.

20130315-201743.jpg

And yes, we are on the strict Hill’s Prescription Diet I/D food and have been for the past couple of years. As your faithful companion ages and their diets change, it is important to remember that expensive dog food will still be cheaper than vet emergencies in the long run. You can also save big money by making your own Homeade Treats.

20130315-201753.jpg

As you can tell, Trev enjoys this food.

20130315-203308.jpg

We also use GSE Liquid Extract by adding only a few drops to his water bowl daily.

So, that’s how we keep our little Trev Bear rocking!!!!

20130315-205434.jpg

I would really appreciate knowing some of the supplements that you have tried successfully, especially for allergies!!!! Trev is on special vet medicine for his allergies and he has a bad cold right now…Would you please send him some well wishes…We would be ever so grateful!!!!

Have a healthy and safe weekend dear friends.

Please note that I have not received any money by sharing these reviews. These reviews are only intended to share the many ways we try to keep our little bear happy and healthy for as long as we can. As always, seek your vet’s advice before adding any new supplements to your dog’s diet.

The Last Treat Bender

Performing Tonight: Trevor Pupperfield

I honestly think Trev Bear has been secretly attending Dog Magic School online. Every time I go to pick up the IPad, Trev “magically” appears and watches me for about 30 seconds and then goes off to take yet another nap. He is a pro at erasing the browsing history and cookies, so I couldn’t prove it…until now!!!!

Trev has always been persuasive with his eyes…in fact, we call it the “laser beam eyes” because it feels like your flesh is melting off when he wants his bities or any other special treat. There is also a slight buzzing and humming sound emitting from his beam…His power has become more controlled in his golden years. 🙂

20130305-170227.jpg
Every morning and night, Trev gets his bities with his Phycox Soft Chews Supplement for his joints and a homeade treat. This is where Trevor Pupperfield begins his performance…

20130305-171210.jpg

Trev steadies himself in a deep focus as if willing the treats to jump off the counter and into his paws…

Can this feat be done? Trev says “Yes” with the help of his magic apprentice…my two year old son!!!! Just watch these two partners in crime as they plan out their next act:

20130305-172940.jpg

Trev: Don’t let her see us talking!!!!

20130305-172843.jpg

Trev: Now look in the opposite direction and focus on something else!!!!

20130305-172747.jpg
Trev: This is just too easy…toddlers take it literally!!!!

I look down at Trev and say I know you’re up to something…

20130305-173416.jpg
Trev: I know nothing!!!!

Just like magic, out of the corner of my eye I see the magic show reach the finale:

20130305-173723.jpg

20130305-173745.jpg

20130305-173752.jpg

I look down again at Trev as he sees I understand his magic secrets…You should be ashamed for making your partner in crime to be your very own little brother…

20130305-173939.jpg

20130305-173956.jpg
Trev: On second thought nawwww…It was totally worth it…The magic trick was a complete success…I think we have a shot at Vegas mom!!!!

I do believe all dogs have magic in their paws…May you and your furry friends have a magical week!!!!
